Privacy Policy
Last updated 13 September 2026
The short version
- You send us photographs of your home, a description, and your general location. That is sensitive, and we treat it that way.
- Location precision: we ask for your city or ZIP code, not your street address. We do not need to know exactly where you live to price a job, so we do not ask.
- We strip GPS data from your photos on your device, before they ever leave it.
- To produce an estimate we send your photographs to Anthropic (Claude) in the United States, and we send written descriptions derived from them — not the photographs — to DeepSeek, which processes data in China. This is explained in Section 4. Please read it.
- We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with contractors. We have no contractor relationships and take no money from them.
- You can delete your projects and your account, and we will delete the underlying data.
The full policy follows and controls.
1. Scope
This Privacy Policy describes how [LEGAL ENTITY NAME] (“QuoteCop,” “we,” “us”) collects, uses, discloses, and safeguards personal information in connection with the QuoteCop mobile application and related services (the “Service”). It forms part of our Terms of Service.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information you provide
| Category | Examples | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Project photographs | Images of the interior or exterior of a property | The primary input to an estimate |
| Project description | Free text describing the work | Scope determination |
| Location | City or ZIP code | Regional material prices, labor rates, tax, permits |
| Corrections | Edits to the determined scope | Accuracy of the estimate |
| Account information | Email address, authentication identifiers | Account access, receipts, support |
| Reported outcomes (optional) | Contractor quotes or final amounts you choose to enter | Improving accuracy |
| Support correspondence | Messages you send us | Responding to you |
2.2 Information collected automatically
Device and app information (model, OS version, app version, language), usage and diagnostic data (features used, errors, performance, timing), and IP address, from which approximate location may be inferred. We use privacy-preserving analytics and do not use third-party advertising trackers.
2.3 Payment information
Purchases are processed by Apple. We never receive or store your payment card details. We receive a transaction identifier and status sufficient to provide what you bought and to honor refunds.
2.4 What we do NOT collect
- Precise geolocation. We do not request always-on or precise location permission.
- Your street address, unless you volunteer it in free text (please don’t — you don’t need to).
- Photo EXIF/GPS metadata. Removed on your device before upload.
- Contacts, calendar, microphone, health data, or advertising identifiers.
2.5 Sensitive information
Photographs of the interior of a home, associated with even approximate location, can reveal a great deal about a household. We treat project photographs as sensitive regardless of whether a given law classifies them as such, and apply the protections in Section 7.
Please do not photograph people, documents, screens, valuables, or anything unrelated to the work you want estimated. Frame the work, not the household.
3. How We Use Information
We use personal information to: generate estimates; operate, maintain, secure, and improve the Service; detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and excessive cost; process purchases and issue refunds and credits; provide support; comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms; and, where we have your consent or it is otherwise permitted, evaluate and improve estimate accuracy.
Legal bases (where applicable law requires one): performance of our contract with you; our legitimate interests in operating and securing the Service; compliance with legal obligations; and your consent where required.
4. Disclosure to Third Parties — Artificial Intelligence Providers
This section is important. Please read it.
Producing an estimate requires transmitting information to third-party AI providers:
4.1 Anthropic (Claude) — United States
Receives: your project photographs and derived analysis. Used solely to analyze images and determine scope. Processing occurs in the United States.
4.2 DeepSeek — China
Receives: written descriptions derived from your photographs, your city or ZIP code, and scope and pricing information. DeepSeek does NOT receive your photographs.
DeepSeek is operated from the People’s Republic of China and processes data on infrastructure located there. This means information about your property — a written description of its condition, what work is needed, and your general location — is transferred outside the United States and processed in a jurisdiction whose legal protections, including government access to data, differ materially from those of the United States.
We limit what is sent: no photographs, no street address, no name, no email, no account identifier, no payment information. What is sent is a description of the work and the market it is in.
If you are not comfortable with this transfer, do not use the Service.
4.3 Other service providers
Cloud hosting and storage; authentication; error monitoring and analytics; payment processing (Apple); customer support tooling. Each is engaged under terms limiting use of personal information to providing services to us.
4.4 Other disclosures
We may disclose personal information: to comply with law or valid legal process; to enforce our Terms; to protect the rights, safety, or property of any person; and in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets — in which case we will notify you before your personal information becomes subject to a materially different privacy policy.
4.5 What we never do
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We do not share your information with contractors, tradespeople, lead generators, or home services marketplaces. This is a deliberate and permanent commitment: our estimates are only trustworthy if we have no financial relationship with the people whose prices we are describing.
- We do not use your information for third-party advertising.
- We do not permit our AI providers to train their models on your content where such control is offered to us.
5. Retention
| Data | Retained |
|---|---|
| Project photographs | [NUMBER] days after project creation, or until you delete the project |
| Estimates and scope | [PERIOD] — retained so past estimates remain viewable and auditable |
| Account information | While your account is open |
| Diagnostic and usage logs | [NUMBER] days |
| Transaction records | As required by tax and accounting law |
Deleting a project removes the photographs. An estimate may be retained in a form that no longer contains the photographs. On account deletion we delete or de-identify personal information within [NUMBER] days, except where retention is legally required. Backups are purged on a rolling schedule not exceeding [NUMBER] days.
6. Your Rights and Choices
Regardless of where you live, you may: access the information we hold about you; correct it; delete projects, photographs, or your account; export your estimates; and opt out of non-essential analytics.
California residents (CCPA/CPRA) additionally have rights to know, delete, correct, opt out of sale or sharing (we do not sell or share), limit use of sensitive personal information, and non-discrimination. Residents of other states with comprehensive privacy laws have comparable rights. You may exercise rights in-app or by contacting [PRIVACY EMAIL]. We will verify your request and respond within the period required by law. You may use an authorized agent where permitted.
Permissions: camera and photo library access are requested only when needed and can be revoked in iOS Settings at any time.
7. Security
Encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest; photographs stored in private storage accessible only via short-lived signed URLs, never publicly addressable; least-privilege access controls with authentication required for internal access; EXIF/GPS stripped on-device before upload; separate credentials per environment; production data never copied into development or testing environments; logging that excludes photograph contents, credentials, and precise location.
No system is perfectly secure. We will notify you and any regulator as required by law in the event of a breach affecting your personal information.
8. Children
The Service is not directed to and may not be used by anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information, contact [PRIVACY EMAIL] and we will delete it.
9. International Users
The Service is intended for users in the United States. Information is processed in the United States and, as described in Section 4.2, in China. If you access the Service from elsewhere, you do so on your own initiative and are responsible for compliance with local law.
10. Changes
We may update this Policy. We will post the updated version with a revised “Last Updated” date and, for material changes — including any change to the AI providers we use or where they process data — provide prominent advance notice through the Service or by email.
